Cute babies

Bullfrog tadpoles in a big concrete tank where they can't swim away from us, for a change.

Is there a "season" for tadpoles, or do frogs just breed while the weather's good? They don't seem to like the vernal ponds around here.

Most species have a season. Unless you live in South America and are surrounded by dart frogs.

There are so many reasons there might not be frogs in your ponds. Frog breeding is so complicated, I always think it's a miracle it ever happens, like, out in nature where there's no one to make sure everything stays moist at the right time and so on. No surprise they're all going extinct, in a way.

Even bullfrogs? I thought they were a borderline pest due to their resilience (and habit of eating other frogs).

oooh, now I'm imagining a world where the only amphibians left are bullfrogs and cane toads. Too depressing.
